About Me

Joanie Anderson, LMHC, CGCS

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington. Helping people deal with anxiety, past traumas, life transitions, serious illness or end-of-life issues, and grief and loss are things I feel passionate about. I have experience in community health, older adult care, medical assisting, community college advising & counseling, various mental health settings, and hospice care. Most recently, I was a grief counselor in hospice care and am experienced in dealing with issues related to grief and loss.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Development with an emphasis in Gerontology, University of Hawaii
  • Master of Arts in Licensed Professional Counseling, Liberty University.

I count it a privilege to listen to your stories and recognize that each story deserves to be heard and acknowledged.

My counseling style is practical and client-focused, as I believe it is important to tailor my approach to your unique needs. I utilize various techniques such as CBT, EFT, trauma-focused, brain-body (somatic) work, mindfulness, IFS, and am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Lifespan Integration.  I am also culturally sensitive and can integrate a spiritual perspective into the therapeutic process if that is your desire.

In the therapeutic setting, you can expect warmth, compassion, and sensitivity, and that I will hold a place of hope for you. I value the importance of compassionate listening, building a trusting therapeutic relationship, and having a safe environment to share your struggles and concerns. Life can be hectic and overwhelming, and it takes courage to reach out for help and support. Sometimes we just need help with tools to deal with the constantly changing world around us; other times we may have more layers to work through.  I look forward to journeying with you toward hope and healing.

One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.
